No, that's exactly my point. In both the original stage version and the 1961 film of WEST SIDE STORY, "America" takes place at night, presumably not long after the characters have left the Dance at the Gym. Since it seems the number is now taking place in daylight, and assuming the new film is retaining the original time structure that all of the action is taking place roughly over a 48-hour period, "America" would now have to take place on the afternoon of the first day -- after the "Prologue" and "Jet Song" but before the Dance at the Gym -- or sometime during the following day, which to me seems like it might be too late a placement for a number like that.
