|While I agree that a Broadway revival of Mame is very unlikely -- too dated, politically incorrect, book pales next to that of Auntie Mame -- I think the show will continue to be done in regional theaters because the score is excellent and (despite its flaws) the show is enjoyable, especially for older audiences.
There was a major production at Evanston Light Opera (Chicago suburb) in 2016 that got a strong review from Chris Jones at the Tribune and apparently did well with audiences. As long as there is an audience for a crowd-pleasing show like Mame, it will continue to be done.
