August is not always a terrible time - later in the month is actually an opportunity. The MTV VMAs has been doing incredible numbers in the last Sunday in august until just 2-3 years ago. Since the VMAs are scheduled on 9/12 (and owned by the same company that owns MTV, so they’ll avoid airing two award shows on the same night, despite the fact the demo is different,) the most likely, realistic day for the Tony awards is august 29, unless there are venue issues. They won’t go on Labor Day weekends and PUT levels (tv usage) are too low to go earlier in August. And I doubt they can pull a decent show together for June or July. Especially given how much of a clusterf**k the anemic oscars were.
