To be fair, while I'm no great admirer of Sunset Boulevard, it's not as if similar failures are unusual when Americans attempt to write British. There are a few in Sweeney Todd, for a start - "ashcans", for example, is an Americanism, it's *not* a word Mrs. Lovett would use.

And there are several examples in MY FAIR LADY, which I have previously noted so I will not beat that dead horse any longer :-)
