That incident was then later followed by his cringeworthy "Buddy's Blues" where he did the two ladies' parts in annoying falsettos in addition to Buddy. I mean, he was great in "Evita" and "Sunday in the Park" but this was just weird.
I assume the thought was to capitalize on "The Day Off" (i.e. the "dog song") from Sunday. But it was a horrid decision - and just added to the feeling that the concert was NOT about doing justice to the score.
