When Audra played Carrie and Lizzie in Carousel and 110 in the Shade, she played the role as originally conceived and not as a Carrie or Lizzie, who was African-American. There is no reason on Earth that an appropriately aged actor of any race or color could not be cast as Annie or Peter Pan or any role.

The 2014 Annie totally reconceived the story to allow for multiracial casting. It got lambasted by the critics, but performed decently at the box office. It may not have been a commercial success, but it wasn't a disaster.

The 2014 Peter Pan was pretty bad. I watched about 30 minutes or so and then switched stations. I thought Allison Williams was badly cast and the production just didn't work (for me). I don't think the race of the actors had anything to do with its failure.

Just my own views, stating things as I saw them, no implications or hidden agenda, nothing more than an opinion.
