Ordoc - For the record, I love movie theaters and HAVE been going back to see films at the cineplexes that have reopened. Alas, the attendances at those showings have been pitiful: in the single digits. A look at the often-paltry weekend box office grosses bears this out.
Clearly, there are folks who are keeping their distance. And Hollywood, too, is worried about how ''it'll play out and pay off.'' ''The Big Screen Is Back,'' a media event, was held last Wednesday at AMC Century City 15 in Los Angeles. It featured Arnold Schwarzenegger urging audiences to return and 10 studios showcasing trailers from their summer movie releases: WB's ''In the Heights,'' Universal's ''F9,'' MGM's ''Respect,'' etc.
Finally, if my last name weren't Chinese, would you have brought up ''Crazy Rich Asians''? I'm concerned about ALL movies, not just Asian-American ones. For instance, ''Cruella'' will open Friday at movie theaters and stream on Disney Plus. I'll plan to support it by seeing it at my local bijou.
