| I grew up listening to the OBC and I am not a fan of the movie. My parents, who saw (and loved) Chita Rivera in it on Broadway weren't either. It seemed silly and contrived and I'm sorry, Ann Margaret's antics weren't much of a turn-on, at least for me. In nearly every case where a stage performer was replaced, I yearned to see the original: Kay Medford, Dick Gautier and Michael J. Pollard included. A few years back, I was approached about directing a high school production and I read the stage script. I was surprised how well crafted it was. |
