was offered the role of Rosie but turned it down. I find this hard to believe, considering that Moreno had a very sparse movie career in the 60s, I think she'd have been delighted to be offered the role.
However....and I'm sure I'll be clobbered for this...I think Janet Leigh was a better choice for the role. Why? Because she had chemistry with Dick Van Dyke, they work well together in the film. If you think of Janet Leigh, you think of her with Anthony Perkins, John Gavin, Tony Curtis, etc. She was a woman who teamed up well with male co-stars. Rita Moreno, for all her talent, has always been about HERSELF. You walk out of a Moreno performance thinking only of her and what she achieved.
