Very few musicals make complete sense if you pick them to death.
The problem is that when you know the stage show, the changes in the film stick out like sore thumbs. Popcorn, ok, but a few drinks beforehand might be better. :-)
I played Harry McAfee when I was 13 (lol), and saw the film shortly after - and really wasn't sure what I was watching half the time. At least there was Dick Van Dyke. But right from the get-go they changed his character too much. I suppose they made him a chemist simply so they could have racing turtles and rushing Russian ballets, lol - but even at 13, I got the joke that he was supposed to be an English teacher but now he's stuck writing terrible rock lyrics. The chemist thing made no real sense. And on and on... |
