| That is too bad because it really is a well made and enjoyable movie with a lot to say. I am not surprised however because of all the bad mouthing that has been said about casting. I spoke with two different friends this week telling them I had seen the movie. One in Florida said that he heard it wasn't very good. The other, my brother in D.C. a movie aficionado, said approximately the same thing. The negativity has centered around the casting of the movie not the quality of the film yet I think what people hear really is just the negativity. This was a film that was made by two Latinx artists with an Asian American director and speaks to the many issues that affect all Latinx persons regardless of their skin color and all BIPOC people in general. Despite the issues it addresses, it manages to be IMHO vastly entertaining and well done. It is a shame should it fail as it apparently is doing because that makes it all the more difficult for BIPOC artists to make their voices heard in Hollywood and elsewhere without pandering with exploitive material. I do intend to see it again (and on a theater screen again) and enjoy it as much as I did the first time. | |
