Saw her in this run three times.

It is a high point of several in her career. The Tel-Arc CD preserves it well (the DOUBLE CD not the 'highlights"). I believe it is still available. If it is not, that is criminal. At one point, I owned three copies just to be safe if one of them disappeared; that's how much I treasured this performance.

What I remember about the GYPSY thing is that Liza was offered the role, but was "flabbergasted" that the producers turned down her salary request. That is why we got Tyne Daly, who I saw in the role. Daly is a great actress, but she can't sing. For proof of this, check out the cast album of this production. You can use it to scare mice, but your neighbors might complain.

I'm glad you were able to see Minnelli at one of her NYC peaks. It's a shame (and rather dumb) that they didn't think to record this engagement for television. The clip I posted is the only video available, as far as I know.
