| I'll have to disagree that Tyne Daly can't sing, but that Gypsy was beyond her modest singing abilities. The Encore's Call Me Madam finds her in capable voice with easy to belt great Berlin tunes, then hop on over to Michael Tilson Thomas' On the Town. Every complete recording of this great Bernstein score finds the role of Hildy well taken and while I find Nancy Walker's performance on the Bernstein recording to be extraordinary, Tyne does well, Kim Criswell does very well on Jay Records, there is not a clunker on any of the recordings. Great parts make for great performances. |
