Completely agree about the bizarreness especially since a stunning and recent revival of a warhorse musical that might also have seemed to be wrong for the moment -- sidelined women, ignored people of color, joking references to sexual assault -- was revived by a great artist whose deeper look at the material made it revelatory (for me, I know not for all). I'm talking about "Oklahoma," of course.
I don't care much about "Music Man," either, but there still seems to be room to hope for this to be a truly thoughtful production, given that it's still months away. |
