When ''Merrily We Roll Along'' played that theater in 1981, it was still the Alvin. A couple years later, as you note, it became the Simon.
Jim Walton, who played Franklin Shepard in that short-lived Sondheim musical, has quipped: ''I've always thought it brought a special luster to 'Merrily' that it premiered at a theater that was working its way through all the names of the Chipmunks.'' |
