I, too, am thrilled ''The Producers'' was turned into a movie musical. Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick and Gary Beach gave incredible comic performances that deserved to be captured for posterity. Plus, not everyone could afford to see this sensational show on Broadway. Nathan has joked that ''The Producers'' was ''the most expensive Lincoln Center [archives] recording ever made.'' As for its detractors, I really don't understand the bad rap it got for being too ''stagebound.'' It's a musical SET IN THE THEATER. After all, the 1967 Mel Brooks film wasn't any MORE cinematic.

And there's another reason I enjoy the movie musical of ''The Producers.'' I got to be an extra in the audience for ''Springtime for Hitler''! ;)
