| I was looking at IBDB and noticed that, before coming to Broadway, Ragtime had a sit-down production in LA. It ran for nearly a year, including a few months after the Broadway production opened. What really seemed odd to me was that from a pretty substantial principal cast (I'm including all of the historical cameos in this group), only Brian Stokes Mitchell and Judy Kaye went on to the Broadway company. Does anyone know why that was? Was LA meant to be an entirely separate production and not a tryout? Were Brian and Judy replacements for planned Broadway cast members? The timing of that production seems odd enough, but the casting really had me scratching my head. Thanks for any insight! |
