| Brian Stokes Mitchell talks about this in the book A Wonderful Guy: Conversations With the Great Men of Musical Theater. They wanted him to stay with the Toronto company and move all of those principles to New York, but his contract guaranteed him the opportunity to originate the role in the states and, since he is from California, he chose to do that. The cast was not happy that they were not the first to perform it in America. |
