The phrase "Great White Way" is sometimes preceded by the article "the" and other times not. In typical conversation, if I were to use that phrase, I would probably say "the Great White Way" because it just sounds like the natural way of speaking. It doesn't mean that the word "the" is part of the phrase. In the '52 musical Singin' in the Rain, when Gene Kelly reprises the song "Broadway Melody", the lyrics are changed slightly to "No skies are gray on that great white way".
I think this thread has gone on too long. Just IMO. |
