I find it interesting that all 3 North American companies will have the one-show version, while the European and Australian companies will continue with the two-show version. I don't know if that's a reflection on ticket prices here. I don't know if any show has ever gone on tour with a two-part version, so maybe they had to go to one part at some point soon anyway.
(MAJOR spoilers)
I don't remember the details of the show that well anymore, but I felt it was a bit bloated when I saw it. (I also think the books are a bit bloated.) Unfortunately, I think the parts that are most likely to go first are the atmospheric portions like the choreographed sections, which I enjoyed. I think the easiest plot to remove is the end of Part I, because after just a bit of Part II, everything gets reset to "normal." But the final tableau of Part I is powerful, and I can't see the creators letting it go. |
