Harvard-educated Jack Lemmon did just fine in the movie along with Anne Bancroft. The man, before he was fired, worked in advertising or public relations, and the woman had stopped her career working behind the scenes on tv when she married. They seemed to be somewhere along the spectrum of middle-class. Broderick was in a similar, less-posh than you think kind of background in his first big show "Brighton Beach Memoirs". I think that he and Sarah Jessica Parker would be fine "Prisoner of 2nd Avenue".
