| Oh, I agree about lack of range, and they both haven't shown anywhere near the versatility that Lemmon and Bancroft did in their characterizations over their careers. But, I think Broderick and Parker are capable of playing one set of characters (probably similar to their usual performances) over 2 acts rather than 3 different characters (which in itself requires some range) over 3 acts. For the most part, he in particular has been giving the same performance for years, with or without singing. My guess is that the costumer and wig person will be on special duty to differentiate when the acting doesn't; otherwise, most likely, it's different situations and names of characters for each act. |
