I agree with you that the word has gotten out of hand, but as long as others keep debating it, it's a word we're stuck with. And if we look up Merriam-Webster, their definition is:

"Canceling and cancel culture have to do with the removing of support for public figures in response to their objectionable behavior or opinions. This can include boycotts or refusal to promote their work."

So I stand behind what I wrote about the poster's treatment of Jackson and his estate.
