The two versions were vastly different, as heard on the new recording. The London production was much more intimate. Also, Amelie was practically doing acrobatics in her pursuit of love. It was thrilling to watch. I left on such a cloud of joy.
The Broadway production totally lacked heart and suffered one of the most common mistakes shows for decades have made- don’t hire someone who doesn’t understand musicals to direct your show. |
