* The 1972 movie features many members of the Broadway cast, most notably: William Daniels, Howard Da Silva, Ken Howard, Ron Holgate, Virginia Vestoff, etc. Does anyone know why Betty Buckley didn't get to reprise her role (as Martha Jefferson)? Similarly, Paul Hecht as John Dickinson.

* When ''1776'' opened in movie theaters in 1972, it was missing ''Cool, Cool Considerate Men.'' Jack Warner, the film's producer, says President Nixon asked to have the song cut, apparently believing that the song was an insult to conservatives (''to the right''). Warner wanted the original negative to be shredded, but the film's editor kept it in storage unaltered. When was ''Cool, Cool Considerate Men'' restored to ''1776''? On DVD?

* Some movie critics slammed Sherman Edwards for his songs to ''1776.'' Vincent Canby of the N.Y. Times: ''The music is resolutely unmemorable. The lyrics sound as if they'd been written by someone high on root beer.'' And Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times: ''I can hardly bear to remember the songs.'' I actually enjoyed Edwards' one-of-a-kind score, and it's fascinating to find out that he previously wrote tunes for Elvis Presley movies and the Johnny Mathis classic ''Wonderful! Wonderful!'' Did Edwards ever have any plans to write another Broadway musical after ''1776''?
