I heartily agree with your praise of the lyrics you cited. To me, the only lyrics in the show that completely misfire are the following:

ABIGAIL:
"Our children all have dysentary,
Little Tom keeps turning blue,
Little Abby has the measles
And I'm coming down with flu.
They say we may get smallpox...

ADAMS:
Uh, Madam...what else is new?

I've always found it extremely strange that Abigail would speak (or sing) so flippantly about her children having or being susceptible to such serious illnesses as dysentary, flu, and smallpox, and that Adams would then dismiss all of that as business as usual. In fact, I think these lyrics are so bad, and so far below the standard of the other lyrics in the show, that I'm amazed the director or someone else didn't say, "Hey, Sherman, those lines have GOT to go. Please do a rewrite."
