| Wow, every person who dreams of being a perform (famous or not) or who just wants to learn about life needs to hear these two beautiful, remarkably talented women express their values, friendship, and the importance of balance between family life and career. I wanted to jump through my computer and thankfully hug them both. For those who might not know the background they shared. They both were involved in the early stages of two years of developing The Light in the Piazza - Celia Keenan-Bolger in the role of Clara and Kelli O'Hara in the minor role of Franca. But when the show moved to Broadway after two years of workshops and tryouts, they decided to hold auditions for Celia's role of Clara. So Clara had to audition for the role she had created. Celia was not hired for Broadway. Kelli took over the leading role of Clara. However, Celia was quickly cast in the Broadway production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Both Celia and Kelli were nominated for Tony Awards as Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Musical, but they lost to Sara Ramirez for her role in Spamalot. So you can imagine what life was like for both Celia and Kelli during the casting change. I encourage you to listen to their heartfelt conversation. I promise you will grow from it. | |
