Abigail's lyrics are flippant not because of the lyrics themselves but because, as I wrote below, they are sung to a sprightly little up-tune that would be more appropriate for a list of the kinds of flowers growing in her garden than an account of the serious illnesses that she and her children are currently suffering, or are in fear of contracting. And in my opinion, John's response is far worse than "kind of a cheap shot." Rather, it defies credibility that he would ever respond to such serious, bad news with "Uhhhh, madam, what else is new?" |
