| I can see it now: Either Sky or Sarah will be a person of color. The time has come.......and look for Lin Manuel Miranda as Nathan Detroit. | |

| How about Eddie Murphy as Nathan and Queen Latifah as Adelaide? | |

| Like any other actor, Queen Latifah is great when she's well cast, but she does have her limitations, and there's nothing in her resume to indicate that she could play the kind of comedy required for the role of Adelaide in GUYS AND DOLLS. A related issue is that the traditional way of playing that role -- as a sort of a ditzy chorine with a thick Noo Yawk accent -- is out of fashion today, so whoever is cast as Adelaide in a new movie version of GUYS AND DOLLS is going to have to come up with a plausible alternative. You know who I think did just that, based on her performance on the cast album? Norma Donaldson in the all-black Broadway GUYS AND DOLLS of the mid 1970s. |

| I would underestimate Queen Latifah at your peril. She has a track record in films and an Oscar nomination for a movie musical. She also can sing in a variety of formats. Do not be surprised if she is cast in this project. |

| Do not be surprised if she is cast in this project. Do you have an in on the casting? Out of plenty of actors who might be considered for the film, why are so SO SURE about her? Spill it... |

That's rather an exaggeration, don't you think? I am aware of Queen Latifah's resume and her versatility, but again, as far as I know, nothing she has done so far indicates that she could play the kind of comedy or the kind of character required for Adelaide in GUYS AND DOLLS, even if we don't expect the new Adelaide to be much like the traditional ditzy blonde interpretation. Furthermore, though of course I don't know for sure, I can't imagine that she would WANT to play that kind of role. If anything, I would say Queen Latifah would be far better cast as Sarah. The only way in which she doesn't fit that role is the soprano singing, but obviously, that could be dealt with by lowering the keys. |

| What about Latifah as Nicely-Nicely Johnson? I would love to hear her sing "Fugue for Tinhorns", the title song, and "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat". | |

| I think Latifah could be good casting as Sarah, Arvide, or Nicely-Nicely -- or just about any role in the show EXCEPT Adelaide! | |

| Queen Latifah is in her early 50's now...I wonder if we should be thinking about her as General Cartwright, rather than as Sarah or Adelaide. I'm not sure either character works, if she's much north of 35. | |

| So, there was an all black Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls with a stellar cast that played 250 performances in 1976. In the successful 1992 revival Sara was played by Josie de Guzman. Not sure what point you are trying to make. | |

| There's no 'point.' It's an opinion. This time it will all be about diversity. Not ALL Black. Not ONE token cast member. I'm just curious as to how it will all play out. I would just like to see Nathan Lane and Audra MacDonald in supporting roles singing their hearts out as Nicely-Nicely and Arvid Abernathy. | |

| This time it will all be about diversity. Crystal ball much? How do you know? Somehow I don't see Audra "singing her heart out" as Arvide (with an E) in a role where there's only one gentle ballad. Though I suppose a female Arvide would be an interesting choice. |
