I don't dislike those lyrics about the Adams children; it seems believable to me that Abigail would enumerate those medical troubles, and that John would momentarily allow himself to be flippant about them. I don't always demand a literal emotional display to prove the character "cares." It seems to me that people who care a great deal can occasionally be flippant, and that being demonstrative proves little.
It's believable to you that she would enumerate the SERIOUS medical issues from which her family is currently suffering, or to which they are susceptible, as if she were reciting a grocery list, and that John would then flip off her recital with "What else is new?" Not to me. |
