| I saw the Broadway production from like the 8th row... while there were many sets, I never felt they swallowed the show or anything like that. If anything I found the production design appallingly lacking in creativity considering the inventive visual feast that is the film it's adapted from. While the production was very very misdirected, I'd also say a mistake is hiring people who don't understand musicals to WRITE the musical. |

| I'd also say a mistake is hiring people who don't understand musicals to WRITE the musical. Craig Lucas and Nathan Tysen? Really? Daniel Messe is the only one who's not a seasoned musical theatre writer, but actually I think his music for the show is quite nice. |

| Daniel Messe is the only one who's not a seasoned musical theatre writer, but actually I think his music for the show is quite nice. Not for nothing, but Messé is indeed an experienced MT writer--like Tysen, he's an alumnus of NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, and he and Mindi Dickstein have written two full-length musicals and a bunch of shorter shows for TheatreworksUSA. (He's just better-known for Hem, though.) Seth, who does dig Hem |
