Chazwaza, that's always puzzled me, too. Why wasn't there a Best Score Tony given out in 1969? (Or 1970 for that matter?)
And yet there was a Best Score Tony given out in 1968, only a year earlier. That category wouldn't be restored until 1971.
Also, I had never seen the 1969 Tony Awards, so I just discovered the clip of Scott Jarvis singing ''Momma Look Sharp.''
Anyone know why this song, which didn't include any of the Founding Fathers, was chosen to represent ''1776''?
At any rate, Jarvis sang it beautifully, and I was saddened to learn he passed away from AIDS in 1990.
(At the 1971 Tony Awards, '1776' would be remembered with William Daniels and Virginia Vestoff singing ''Till Then.'') |
