| There are so many anxieties embedded in this piece of hype, some of them on the surface, other completely submerged. Whatever happens to nyc culture in the following year it will be a changed culture and it would be nice if critics kept their eyes and ears attuned to how it is changing rather than how it is rebounding to what it was. This all might be influenced by the news that I received two days ago from a friend in SF who told me that two of his friends who double-vaccinated just tested positive for covid with most likely the Delta variant. |

| The article does indeed recognize that the demand is, in general, soft and that some/many producers are worried. It's troubling. It's also troubling that smart people like Marks seem to be white-washing a lot of issues. That said, I don't view breakthrough infections as an issue. We've known all along that we are not eradicating the virus and that the focus is (as it should be) on eradicating hospitalizations and deaths. There were less than 350 people in the hospital in the entire state yesterday, and only one death. I am almost willing to bet a damn subscription to the Washington Post that none of them were vaccinated. To put that in perspective, there were a helluva lot more people in the hospital and dying from auto accidents. Let's ban cars. :-) | |
