Suggestions:
Retrousse, with an accent égout on the last e? It has to do with a turned-up nose? Was it being used loosely?
Retouche (again with an accent égout which I cannot get to type itself there) which is related to retouching a photo?
Retrouve (égout, again) which means to habe been re-found?

lordofspeech, thank you for the suggestions! I don't think it's any of them, though, unfortunately. I was able to listen to it again (and again) at 34:26 in the link. (Thank you FleetStreetBarber for the link!) It sounds like "re-shrow-shay."

The dialogue is as follows:

Guettel: We called him Roy, he's called Noel... (overlapping dialogue)
Interviewer (Adam Gopnik): On the grounds that Noel was too "re-shrow-shay" a name? Or hard to...
Guettel: Yes, it is "re-shrow-shay," that's the proper way to put it.

What are they saying? It sounds like it should be derived from French, but I can't find any such word.
