| When the Ann Miller/Mickey Rooney SUGAR BABIES had its pre-Broadway tryout in San Francisco, there was a roller skating number which the reviewers singled out as being problematic. The number featured the female ensemble; the leads were not on skates. It was removed from the show within days of opening night. | |

| James Rado wrote a musical entitled THE RAINBOW RAINBEAM RADIO ROADSHOW (also known as RAINBOW) that opened Off-Broadway at the Orpheum Theater in December 1972. The musical was a sequel of sorts to HAIR with a character called Man who was killed in the Vietnam War and who now lives in Rainbow land. I distinctly recall one number in which the cast were on roller skates. |

| In the Kurt Weill/Langston Hughes musical/opera, Willie Murrant enters the first scene on roller skates. I don't remember if that happens in the Elmer Rice play. db |

| In ROCKY, I’m pretty sure they were roller blading to mimic the look of ice skating at a rink. | |

| Funny Girl had a roller skating number which was cut before NYC. However, the Broadway logo is an upside down Brice/Streisand on roller skates. Of course, the movie featured her on skates. | |

| And the World Goes Round, although the number that featured it was from The Rink, so maybe its already been incorporated into this stream. | |

| THE RINK remains one of my most treasured Broadway outings. I saw it three times. I was of course completely aware of the talent involved, and I was more than gratified. To invite immediate scorn, I believe Liza deserved the Tony over Chita. I have always believed that. And after seeing Stockard Channing in Liza's role, well, there you go. Nothing against Stockard. But she could not get NEAR "All The Children In A Row." The ushers warned us to be kind. The audience was not. Dead silence............. |

| It would be hard to duplicate the star power of the original (although I guess, not impossible). Also, that set was a work of art in itself. It should have won the Tony. | |
