Glad you enjoyed it, too, Laura. It was fun. It's so rare to see Asian-American actors play farcical comedy, especially with European accents.
It's one of the reasons why I love ''Please Hello'' in ''Pacific Overtures'' so much: to hear Asians doing British, French, Dutch and Russian accents.
Plus, ''Please Hello'' is such a tour de force for Sondheim's wickedly witty rhymes and merry musical parodies of various nationalities.
Speaking of Sondheim, in a post-show discussion for this ''Gentleman's Guide,'' its director, Alan Muraoka, raised the prospect of another exciting project. Ann Harada was telling him that they oughta do an all-Asian-American ''Follies,'' with legends like Alvin Ing and Baayork Lee. Brilliant! |
