I may be misremembering, but didn't Marilyn Maye sing "Step to the Rear"?

We had WNEW-AM on all the time and they played that song a lot.

Marilyn Maye DID have a hit with Step to the Rear. But she only recorded it ( as she had other show tunes like Cabaret and Sherry). She did not appear in the show. Marilyn Mason, another full voiced belter was in the show ( but did not introduce that number). Maye then recorded it for a Lincoln Mercury commercial which played for a number of years(and for which she received a new leased Lincoln every one of those years).

I'm now in S. Florida, where Maye played some months ago in Boca. The local "oldies" radio station plays her STEP TO THE REAR and CABARET in steady rotation.

One of the greatest cabaret performers I have ever seen. She is up there with Barbara Cook and Rosemary Clooney. Her connection with an audience and zest for life is astonishing. And her rhythm and taste unmatched .

Interesting that they emphasized her voice is still good. I’m actually more impressed that she remembers all those lyrics in her 90s.

You were busy poring over box office gross spreadsheets, so your ignorance of her is understandable.

Even I know who she is... either I watched a lot of Johnny Carson back in the day, or else I may remember her from a game show appearance or two?

She's a great cabaret artist who is known for covering many famous Broadway show songs. I've never seen her perform live but all my friends in New York rave about the act she has done at 54 Below, Birdland, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

She's famous for all her appearances on The Steve Allen Show and The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

I was always a fan of Marilyn Maye going back to her recording of the title song from the Broadway flop SHERRY. Not long after she was the first artist I recall singing CABARET before, I believe, it officially opened. I wish RCA would release her many albums on LP since I've only found two available on CD. The same goes for Lana Cantrell. Both had remarkable voices and were quite prolific at one time.

I love Lana Cantrell's albums, too, and they're all also downloadable on iTunes.

Also wondering what ever happened to Jane Olivor? Loved her Aznavour style of song interpretation.

According to Wikipedia, Olivor took a career hiatus in the 1980s, dealing with stage fright, depression, and her husband's prostate cancer. She returned to performing around 1990, but it would seem that her career momentum was broken. She continued to perform until 2008 when she again withdrew.

I have them all of Lana Cantrell's recordings. The last time I saw her perform live was in NYC at a Dusty Springfirld tribute that Lady Bunny put together. She was still a dazzling performer.

If you subscribe to Itunes, they have "Meet Marilyn Maye", "The Second of Maye", "The Lamp is Low", "A Taste of Sherry", "Step to the Rear" ,"The Happiest Sound in Town" and "Girl Singer".
They are all of her great albums!!!

What's missing are more recent club appearances recorded live. She has such a rapport with her audiences that I wish were captured.
