| To say that someone "should be an honoree" means that someone who is or has been an honoree shouldn't have been. Which of this year's honoree's do you think should not have been chosen? | |

| ... the creators of Hamilton. Whatever your feelings about Hamilton, that felt like the definition of 'too soon' and a rather cheap ploy to capitalize on the show's unprecedented success. Although I mean her no ill will, I'm not sure that Barbara Cook had made a bigger cultural impact than Liza. But if they hadn't honored Barbara, we wouldn't have gotten what I consider perhaps the best performance in the history of the telecast. The women who honored Cook that night were on top form! And, although unrelated to theatre, Adam's post reminded me that LL Cool J is a Kennedy Center Honoree. LL Cool J. I mean, sure, some of his old songs are great, but the man hasn't made any impact on music in decades. Other than his 80s-early 90s releases as a rapper, what were we honoring him for? Blandest Awards Show Host, Most Serviceable Television Actor, Best Secret Republican? |

| Ditto on Hamilton, which was just weird. (Also, LL Cool Jay was only 49. I get the impulse to recognize hip-hop but wait a few years at least maybe!) | |

| The only logical explanation for LL Cool J getting in was that somehow his agents made it a condition with CBS for renewing his contract on his long-running NCIS series on CBS. It's also pretty shady that both the Hamilton team and Cher (who was extremely deserving on her own) were BOTH inducted the same year that Hamilton played the Kennedy Center AND in the same month that the (also Jeffrey Seller produced) THE CHER SHOW opened on Broadway. | |

| Yes, the LL Cool J honor is a head-scratcher if you look at his achievements compared to others in the music world. He was very young, and he also didn't really have the same kind of continued impact that other honored musicians have had. His songs were very "of the moment" and I think they are mostly a footnote today. After he joined NCIS in 2009, he only put out one album, which was only moderately successful. If they wanted to choose a rap act, Run-DMC or the Beastie Boys are much more deserving. So I also conclude that it's not coincidental that he was a star on a CBS series. I don't know if it was a condition to continue, or just synergy like Cher, but if NCIS didn't exist, he wouldn't have gotten the honor. |

| She only has a couple Broadway credits but if we want to talk about someone who's really overdue, it's the lone "Nine to Five" lead who has not received the honor: Jane Fonda. | |

| Yes. Extraordinary career. She's lived at least 5 complete lives between the movies, the activism, the exercise videos, television and some stage sprinkled in there. I vote for Burt Bacharach. Only one Broadway credit but it was a big hit. And his music was very influential throughout the 60's and 70's. | |
