I disagree about Channing. She was Dolly, over and over again. Yes, I know about Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and the films, but compared to others who were passed over while they were alive, Channing is pretty much a one-note samba. Rosemary Clooney, for example, was a singing star, had her own TV show, starred in everyone's favorite December movie, hit hard times, wrote two books and reinvented herself at the end of her career as a top cabaret performer.
Perhaps one posthumous award should be given each year so we don't forget what greatness really is. |
