To be fair, it is a rather difficult play to pitch in in an ad, as it combines a kind of riff on Waiting for Godot with the experience of young back men who are treated as criminals simply because they are young black men. It's also a play that worked very well in a small space, but which, I fear, may be severely challenged in a much larger space. I have to wonder about the quality of the producing behind it.

You’ve already said more about the play than the ads have, and actually I think that’s the relatively easy pitch to the theater crowd: Godot, but it’s Black men who can’t leave the corner because of racism; funny and important, Pass Over is at the August Wilson Theater!

The poster who referred to The Inheritance is spot on: there’s nothing in the marketing that shows the actors or connects the play to today. It’s literally a Black Lives Matter play, which would seem to be a major selling point, but I imagine they’re afraid of alienating the Broadway audience that doesn’t want to acknowledge that Black lives matter…. Though my god, what happens when those people realize they’re at a BLM play during the show?

I 100% agree with you that this play doesn’t make much sense in a theater that mostly hosts musicals. But if they can’t find a way to tell folks what the play is, I guess it won’t matter what theater they’re in.
