Knives Out, Mare of Easttown, Murder on the Orient Express, Big Little Lies, the (cheesy) Adam Sandler whodunits on Netflix. The public appetite for them is THERE. A smart Broadway producer should find a new whodunit and put it on.

I didn't know it had gone anywhere - plenty of popular murder mystery TV series and films throughout recent years.

There hasn't been one on Broadway in quite awhile. And the success of the traditional (Poirot, Knives Out) and the new fangled HBO/female/the town is nothing but secrets (Mare, Lies) in recent years has focused renewed attention on the genre. Just saying that the same audience that goes to the movies and watches HBO could show up for one on Broadway.

Ok, for Broadway. But the murder mystery bas been alive and well otherwise, well before Knives Out and Big Little Lies.

What would be the last mystery/thriller to be on Broadway?

What would be the last mystery/thriller to be on Broadway? Getting Away with Murder was in 1996. There were revivals of Wait Until Dark and Night Must Fall in 1998 and 1999. Have there been any since?

(I would not classify A Soldier's Play as a mystery. The investigation is an avenue to explore the theme of racism. The identity of the killer is not the point of the play. And I realize that mysteries and thrillers are not the same thing. I guess it's really two separate questions.)

It was about a radio DJ and she was being hunted by a mystery caller (I think) in a cabin. Spoilers for a badly remembered play, the ending was the villain fell from a ledge into a hot tub or pool and was electrocuted.

I know it wasn’t a hit and not that good but I was glad I saw it at the time as I love the genre.
