Two performances were cancelled last week (Wed—Thurs) due to Covid, then also last Friday in order to ‘recalibrate’ and to give Brandon E. Burton, the Falstaff understudy, more time to learn his role and for other understudies in minor roles, per what we were told on Monday prior to the performance. I have to say I loved it, thought it exemplified the Public at its best—great adaptation that worked beautifully and didn’t seem forced, terrific cast all around, incredible stage design, music and costumes that all worked together. It was uplifting to say the least.
By the way, Burton is doing Falstaff as the original actor was injured week before last. He’s risen to the challenge and then some. I’m not sure who tested positive. Susan Kelechi Watson is amazingly talented.
