William Gillette probably holds the record. Between 1899 and 1930 he played Sherlock Holmes on Broadway six times. He also wrote the play in which he starred. Gillette Castle State Park is a wonderful place to visit if anyone finds themselves at Goodspeed Opera House. It was Gillette's private home he started to build in 1914.
