| I hope prayer circles are voluntary and not required of any performer at any show. It's one thing to get together for cast, creatives and producers on opening night to hope/pray for good luck (breaking a leg, etc.). Before every show sounds like overkill, especially when different folk have their own ways of getting ready for a performance. When I was non-Equity, I was very pissed when producer/performers at one of my shows wouldn't make these non-denominational or optional and tried to use them as a way to convey power and prejudice, and when I complained, said "they were going to pray for me". I told them I was hired to do a show, not signing up for a religious experience. Fortunately, I was excused from them, and was able to quit this altogether horrendous show experience once they breached my contract by reducing people's pay. |
