NewtonUK, that's interesting. My impression was that the scanner allows the ticket-taker to have to check very little on the ticket. They don't have to check to see whether it is a forgery or if the date/time/show are accurate. But perhaps that is wrong.
When I see tours, there are never these crazy lines, even though they use scanners also and the theaters are just as big. The differences I see are that the house is open earlier, and they also sometimes have more ticket-takers. I think the bigger issue is that the house seems open quite late fairly often. Once the house opens, the line moves pretty quickly. I've seen many shows at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, which seats 2500, and I've never seen a crazy line there. I don't think the house has ever opened after 7:30 there. |
