Another fascinating part of this story was "Swanson on Sunset," a 1994 Los Angeles stage production that depicted the creation of the '50s Swanson musical and featured much of its score. If I recall correctly, the show was forced to close as it was at least in part a musicalization of "Sunset Boulevard" the movie at a time when Andrew Lloyd Webber had exclusive rights to a musicalization of the film; ALW's "Sunset" had closed in L.A. earlier that year, and the NY premiere of ALW's "Sunset" had just happened at the time of "Swanson on Sunset."
Before it closed, the 1994 "Swanson on Sunset" was preserved on video.
