An artist who occasionally gets a mention here, June Bronhill was a talented artist in opera, operetta, musicals, TV, cabaret etc. Her recordings (in English) with the Sadler's Wells Opera in Offenbach, Lehar, Strauss etc are well worth looking out.
The new biography (well, early 2021) is well written - a fascinating and detailed account of her life that I read in just a few sittings. Includes a discography that lists many recordings I was (as a fan) unaware. I don't agree with all of the author's assessment but have yet to read a biography of anyone where I do.
For those who may be new to her work the link below is June and Keith Michell in a song from the 1964 London show Robert and Elizabeth (recorded a bit later). If you don't have the cast album it is well worth a hunt and is a joy from start to finish. |
