Who's to say that Chris Gattelli's ''With All of Your Heart'' choreography isn't an affectionate homage to ''Pennies From Heaven''? Just as Danny Daniels' work in the 1981 movie of ''Pennies From Heaven'' is inspired by Tudor Davies' choreography in 1978 British TV miniseries. ... Gattelli is a Tony-winning choreographer who's also done other pastiche work for the movies (notably, the Coen brothers' ''Hail, Caesar!''). I bet Gattelli draws on an extensive knowledge of musicals, past and present, and is only too happy to share and pass along the legacy of other choreographers.
Not everyone watching ''Schmigadoon!,'' especially younger audiences, will know ''Pennies,'' but this series could be their gateway and much more ... |
