Not to completely sidetrack the thread, but I agree that Springsteen already started performing a play/musical on Broadway over a month ago. I realize his team are the ones responsible for the marketing and creating a perception that his show isn't really a play, but it has a script (that you can see on the TelePrompter) repeated night after night. He is reciting a monologue and acting it out. I know the show was not eligible for the competitive Tonys, but I would have given him the Tony for Leading Actor in a Musical that season.
Yes, there are adlibs, but it's no less a play than What the Constitution Means to Me IMO.
If Springsteen's team had marketed the show as "Hey, Bruce Springsteen wrote a (mostly) one-man musical about his life," we would be talking about it as a musical. So I'm not so excited about Pass Over because Springsteen already brought the Broadway musical back to life. |
