I see no reason for you to postpone your trip due to crime. Much of the uptick isn't in places that tourists would spend time. I have not personally witnessed, nor have I heard of anyone I personally know witnessing anything that seems out of the ordinary. The subways, streets etc feel much as they have for the two decades I've lived in NYC. What Covid is going to look like in NYC in December on the other hand. . . who knows.
